Preventing Damage and Production Downtimes: Page 2

50 years of development experience, manufacturing competence and operational know-how lie behind the backlash-free EAS-Compact torque limiting clutches made by the world market leaders, mayr Antriebstechnik.

EAS-Compact torque limiting clutches are extremely easy to adjust steplessly to the required limit torque. An easilyreadable scale on the adjusting nut shows to which percent of the maximum torque the clutch is set. Should this torque be exceeded due to overload or collision, the clutch disengages and separates the input and output within milliseconds. The disengagement time is dependent on the rigidity of the axis as well as on the hardness and speed of the collisions. The disengagement movement can be scanned using a mounted limit switch and the drive can be switched off. Once the malfunction has been removed, the clutch engages automatically and is immediately ready for operation.

In addition to backlash-free function, the torque behaviour on overload is an extremely important quality criterion on torque limiting clutches. When the clutch disengages, the retaining elements (balls, rollers) move out of their recesses. The installed cup springs remain under tension. So that the torque does not increase in this critical phase, but rather drops immediately, modern torque limiting clutches such as the EAS-Compact mainly function today using cup springs with a falling characteristic curve. The spring force and therefore the transmittable torque reduce and the pre-tension path increases.

At mayr Antriebstechnik, EAS-torque limiting clutches are set precisely to torque at the site of manufacture and inspected. Facilities have been installed during certification of the company acc. DIN ISO 9001, and in accordance with the related company objective of best-possible quality assurance in order to record the measurement data electronically, to store them permanently and to document them. All adjustments, inspections and documentation are carried out among other things on an assembly test stand developed and built by the company.

The clutch and its measurement data are clearly allocated and recorded with entry of the serial number. In this way, each individual clutch can be traced even after years have gone by to find out when and with which order number and with which torque adjustment it was delivered. If required, the system can produce an inspection protocol in the form of a Word document. Due to the long-term storage of inspection data, it can of course be called up years later, for example if questions arise requiring clarification.

mayr Antriebstechnik has developed and manufactured mechanical torque limiting clutches for 50 years, and is the world leader in this market sector. The company provides the largest product range of load holding, load separating, torque and force limiting, friction locking, positive locking, magnetic, regulatable and switchable torque limiting clutches.
