Safety Brakes Pass Endurance Tests: Page 4

All function components are corrosion-protected and dimensioned to be suitable for emergency brakings with high friction work.

Safety brakes must function reliably during all possible conditions and operational malfunctions such as power failure or emergency stops. This places very different demands on the brake. For harbour systems, “normal” operating conditions are extreme by any other standards. Changing climates with high temperature fluctuations and different humidity values are part of everyday conditions for harbour cranes. Only sealed brakes with high-quality corrosion protection can exist here long without sustaining damage.

Under normal operational conditions, the drive motor speed in undercarriage and stroke drives on harbour cranes is first reduced to a very low value using electrical controls or completely stopped before the brakes engage. They are purely used for their holding function and must absorb no or very little friction work. In emergency off or power failure, the situation changes dramatically. The safety brakes may have to absorb extremely high friction work, if, for example, on stroke drives, downwards moving loads are to be braked while travelling at full speed. ROBA-stop -S safety brakes are designed for such extreme situations. They can withstand emergency brakings without damage and without immediately needing damage inspection. Generously-dimensioned components and friction linings made of high-quality materials ensure that these brakes function reliably and problem-free in all operational conditions.
