Torque limiting clutches are simply irreplaceable
In our current global competitive environment, which is dominated by extreme price and deadline pressures, the occurrence of damages, downtimes and related production losses can become a serious risk for an entire company. Never before has it been so important to protect machines and production equipment from unplanned downtimes and never before has it been so safe and simple! High-quality torque limiting clutches offer reliable protection in all performance ranges and application areas, from small servo drives to heavy equipment construction.

- Modern performance-density torque limiting clutches like the EAS-smartic transmit the torque backlash-free over their entire service lifetime. Their perfect behaviour in case of overload makes them the optimum protective element, even for highly dynamic and reversing servo axes.
Collisions cannot always be prevented safely, even on machines with the most sophisticated control and surveillance systems. They cause high costs for repair work and replacement parts, lead to downtimes and damage to the company image due to belated deliveries. It is often overlooked that this also affects the machine manufacturer. Collisions might cause hidden damage, which can lead to a loss in accuracy. Such quality problems with a machine as well as downtimes influence the productivity statistics negatively. Both cast a bad light on the machine manufacturer and influence subsequent buying decisions. Servo motor providers give the impression that servo motors with a current control mechanism already offer cost-effective overload protection, meaning that torque limiting clutches can be neglected. However, this is only the case for a few exceptions! Experience has shown that current control can only be considered as a viable alternative in applications with low dynamics and gentle collisions.
Due to the technical developments made in machine construction, this situation will continue to change in favour of mechanical torque limiting clutches. Production speeds are increasing steadily. Furthermore, higher precision is required. This can only be achieved with very rigid machine constructions. However, in case of system malfunctions, high speed and rigidity cause hard collisions. In such cases, only very quick separation using mechanical torque limiting clutches is able to prevent severe secondary damage.
