The only truly reliable protection: Page 4

Due to the high performance density, it was possible to integrate four new-generation EAS-element clutches into a rolling mill between the output shafts of the pinion stand gearbox and the cardan shafts which connect the gearbox with the roll stand. The four shafts are positioned so closely to one another that it would have been impossible to fit in standard torque limiting clutches due to the larger outer diameter.

In comparison to hydraulic clamping sets, disengaging EAS-torque limiting clutches of the next generation possess decisive advantages. In case of overload, they separate input and output very quickly, almost residual torque-free and with very high switch-off and repetitive accuracies. Overload clutches can be put back into operation very easily and fast, without replacing
the damaged parts. The clutch can be installed without special tools.Astable, integrated bearing has the ability to absorb very large forces, even in disengaged state.

Due to the high performance density, the new EAS-element clutch can be used in application fields, which were impossible to achieve with the previously known designs. It was possible, for example, to integrate them in a rolling mill, between the output shafts of the pinion stand gearbox and the cardan shafts, which connect the gearbox with the roll stand. The four shafts are positioned so closely to one another that it would have been impossible to fit in standard torque limiting clutches due to the larger outer diameter. It can be expected that the new compact EAS-element clutch will also revolutionise overload protection in other heavy machine construction areas e.g. for crushers, tunnel boring machines, mining machines or large pumps. Non-destructive limitation of dangerously high torques, caused by collisions or malfunctions, is now possible
even in very limited spaces.
