- mayr power transmission have positioned different brake systems for vertical axes on the market. The ROBA-topstop established itself quickest. The fact that it can be easily integrated between the servo motor and the gearbox or the spindle is the reason for its success.
Branch-optimised safety brakes do not come into existence overnight. For brake manufacturers, it is of significant importance to recognize trends as early as possible, and to react accordingly. Approximately five years ago, machine tools manufacturers individually started voicing their thoughts on increasing the safety of gravity loaded axes. A number of accidents and an information brochure published by the Technical Committee for Mechanical Engineering, Production Systems and Steel Construction additionally initiated a discussion on the sense and the necessity of additional safety installations.
The information brochure named different possibilities for increasing safety. One of the measures mentioned is the integration of a second safety brake, if, for example, it cannot be ruled out that the motor-holding brake fails. mayr power transmission considered this recommendation as a request and took over a leading role in the development of safety brakes for gravity loaded axes.
Due to years of experience with the operation of machine tools and the close cooperation with machine manufacturers, the company knows the requirements of this branch exactly. Furthermore, the brake specialist from Mauerstetten has been holding a leading position in the field of safety brakes for elevator and stage drives for years. Stages and machine tools have significant parallels. In both areas, people move under pending loads, which have to be secured against uncontrolled sinking or crashing.
At the Hannover trade fair 2005, the company presented its new ROBA-topstop for the first time to a wide audience. Due to its adapted flange dimensions, this brake system not only can be integrated into new constructions, but can also be retrofitted in existing axes. In the meantime, additional product platforms, just as for example the ROBA -linearstop and ROBA -pinionstop, supplement the brake palette for application in vertical and inclined axes. The trend to application-optimised brake solutions remains unchanged, the demands for safety and reliability are increasing. Brake manufacturers can only fulfil the current high demands if they, like mayr power transmission, have extensive professional competence in the development and production of safety brakes.
