Safety brakes XL: brake systems for high braking torques and large-scale applications in harsh environments

Applications with extreme torques demand reliable, high-performance safety brakes – especially when the environment adds further challenges, such as in ports or on the open sea. With new models in the ROBA-stop® S and ROBA-stop M® series, mayr® power transmission now opens up the braking torque range above 1,000 Nm for the maritime sector as well.

Products in focus

ROBA-stop® S
ROBA-stop® S
The seawater brake built for the tough jobs

The ROBA-stop® S is specifically designed for the demanding conditions of maritime applications. With protection rating IP67 and a high level of corrosion protection, it withstands the stresses of saltwater, rough seas, and storms – delivering reliable safety on deck and in port facilities.

ROBA-stop M® 2000
ROBA-stop M® 2000
The robust motor brake for large-scale applications

The electromagnetic ROBA-stop M® spring-applied brake operates on the fail-safe principle – meaning it is failsafe by design. In the de-energized state, including during power failures or emergency stops, the brake is engaged. When power is applied, a magnetic field builds up inside the brake. This pulls the armature disk against the spring force toward the coil carrier, freeing the rotor – the brake is released and the motor can run freely. A further advantage for safety-critical applications: even if the brake is damaged – for example by a cable break or solenoid failure – the braking torque is maintained.
