Management changes at the family-run business mayr® power transmission
The fifth generation takes over responsibility

The year 2022 is a very special year for the renowned family-run company mayr® power transmission from Mauerstetten in the Allgäu region of Germany. The company is celebrating its 125th anniversary, and a glance at the company history reveals that stability and continuity are central components of the corporate philosophy. This is also reflected in the proactively-initiated change in management: The Managing Partner Ferdinand Mayr, who is the great-great-grandson of the company founder, has recently taken over the position of CEO from Günther Klingler.

Day after day, clutches, couplings and brakes from mayr® power transmission in Mauerstetten secure the movements in machines all around the globe. This task does not allow for any compromises in quality. After all, safety brakes and clutches are components that must reliably ensure the protection and safety of people and also material in the machines and systems. In other words, components that precisely and instantly interrupt movements in an emergency, brake to a standstill or maintain specific positions with millimetre precision. Components that, in an emergency, can save lives. They stand for safety that does not permit compromises.

Safe, reliable, innovative – since 1897.

At mayr® power transmission, the best products with uncompromising quality means the integrity of the values safety, reliability and innovation across the entire company: From the initial offer right up to the on-site Aftersales Service. Worldwide, at all our subsidiaries and representative offices. This philosophy allowed mayr® power transmission to grow from a simple, small tradesman’s business into the worldwide market leader in the area of mechanical power transmission. The company's history begins in 1897. Back then, the company was founded by Christian Mayr (the great-great-grandfather of today's Managing Partner and now CEO Ferdinand Mayr) as a carpenter’s workshop specialising in mill structures in Kaufbeuren, a city a few kilometers from Mauerstetten.

The anniversary year marks the beginning of a new era at the helm of the company

Today, the company mayr® power transmission is managed by the fifth generation. Ferdinand Mayr has already been managing the company together with his grandfather Fritz Mayr and Günther Klingler since the end of 2018. Günther Klingler joined the family business back in 1980, was appointed to the management in 1991 and has been Managing Director of mayr® power transmission since 2006. Now, before Günther Klingler enters his well-deserved retirement next year after more than 40 years with the company, he has handed over the position of CEO to Ferdinand Mayr (as of 01.04.2022). Günther Klingler will continue to be part of the management team until he retires, and will actively support and advise during the change process. “Stability and continuity are our great strengths”, explains Ferdinand Mayr. “This is also reflected in the structure of the management team. We operate on a cross-generational basis and are thus able to include different perspectives and experiences in the decision-making process.” That is why, as of 01.05.2022, the long-standing Head of Finance and Human Resources, Christian Illig, has moved up into the management team to assume the position of CFO.

Stronger together

In addition, the executive management is to be supported in all strategic and operationally relevant issues by a newly established management team. This team features a wide range of expertise and consists of Johann Eberle, Head of Sales and Marketing and authorized signatory since 15.05.2022 as well as Peter Daffner, Head of Order Center and Logistics, Christoph Dropmann, Head of Research and Development, and Renate Wörle, Management Head of the Executive Office. The special thing about mayr® power transmission is its orientation as a family-run company. Since its foundation, the Mayr family has backed the company. “We consider our company with all its employees to be a grown Mayr family”, Ferdinand Mayr explains. “For us as the owner family, it is important to be present at the company, to co-design it and to implement the values we stand for. This creates consistency and reliability. Our customers, but also our employees worldwide, can rely on this.” And Fritz Mayr adds: “Tradition and innovation are the supporting pillars which have guaranteed our stability for generations. In a world that is becoming increasingly fast-moving and uncertain, this mean reliability and long-term security. Secure workplaces on the one hand, but of course our products also stand for safety and reliabilty. So in other words, the topic of ‘safety’ shapes not only our thinking but also our actions.”

Reliable partner – also in the future

Despite the crisis, mayr® power transmission has invested heavily in its headquarters in Mauerstetten in recent years and completed several new building projects. This supports the family-run company's stability policy and its commitment to the location, as Ferdinand Mayr emphasizes: “Our long-term focus is on securing a stable and sustainable location in the Allgäu region. For this purpose, we use the generated profits - with the aim of creating the prerequisites and the creative space for a successful future. In more specific terms this means modern workplaces, digitalization, automation and sustainable production as an upfront contribution to Germany as a production location.”

This is what will make mayr® power transmission a reliable partner also in the future – for its customers, suppliers and employees.
