Torque limiters / Safety clutches - The airbag for your machine

Torque limiters / Safety clutches: The airbag for your machine

Innovative designs from the market leader: Torque limiting clutches and force limiting clutches from mayr® power transmission reliably protect machines and systems from expensive overload damage. So-called overlaod clutches also help to increase output and productivity through a reduction in downtime.

From design concept through to volume production, mayr® power transmission's products are fully supported by documentation including CAD models, 2D drawings and operating instructions and technical data sheets most of which can be directy downloaded from our website.

The right torque limiting clutch for your application

Whether load-holding or load-disconnecting torque limiting clutches: mayr® overload clutches are characterised by the highest quality. In the field of torque limiting clutches, we are the worldwide market and technology leader and thus contribute to the protection against expensive overload damage and production downtime in many companies. Our overload clutches are characterised by a particularly backlash-free torque transmission. The torque limiting clutches are rustproof and particularly robust.

Our torque limiting clutches are used in a wide variety of applications:

  • as capping heads for filling plants
  • for limiting tensile and compressive forces.
  • As torque limiters also for high-speed applications and heavy-duty applications.

The mayr® overload clutches are divided into load-holding and load-disconnecting clutches according to their functional principle.

Individual safety clutches - matched to the requirements in the company

We manufacture our overload clutches in various designs, sizes and torque strengths. Please contact us: Safety clutches from mayr power transmission perform well worldwide in heavy industry, CNC milling technology, toolmaking or in the steel industry. Together we realise overload protection, which reliably protects man and machine and ensures successful production processes.

FAQ - frequently asked questions

At mayr®, the torque limiters / safety clutches are divided into load-separating and load-holding models. The former separate input and output in case of overload or collision. The latter limit the torque to the set value, but do not interrupt the torque transmission in the event of an overload - they hold the load with the set torque. All safety clutches can be equipped with switching devices that give a signal when the set torque values are exceeded or switch off the drive directly.

The mayr® torque limiters and safety clutches can be used wherever torques or forces are transmitted and must be limited to defined maximum values in order to prevent damage to people and material. Specifically, they are used in the following areas, among others:

  • in the construction of heavy machinery
  • in conveyor technology
  • in bolting technology for the food industry, the chemical, pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries
  • in many other industries

Overload clutches, ratchet clutches and synchronous clutches are load separating safety clutches, i.e. they separate input and output completely in case of overload. Depending on the functional principle, however, the clutch re-engages in different ways.

  • Overload clutches do not re-engage automatically. The clutch must be re-engaged manually or via an additional device.
  • Ratchet clutches automatically re-engage after a certain angle of rotation, for example 15°.
  • Synchronous clutches also re-engage automatically, but only at a specific engagement point after a full rotation.
